About Cascade

Cascade is a new, still-under-the-radar company led by repeat entrepreneurs and backed by top investors.

Cascade's mission is to give modern analysts the tools they need to tell beautiful, deep, elegant stories with data. Non-technical business analysts have not gotten a tool upgrade in years — Cascade unlocks the analyst's skillset by allowing them to combine data of all kinds and sizes, manipulate and explore datasets, run sophisticated operations and publish the results in a story-like format. Unlike work done in a spreadsheet, analysis in Cascade is repeatable, auditable, deeply collaborative and automatically up-to-date. Data stories live online, ready for others to explore and build on.

Cascade is backed by First Round Capital, Redpoint, Susa and other top investors.

Role Overview

Cascade is seeking an experienced full-stack engineer to join the initial engineering team at Cascade. This position will work closely with the CTO and founding eng team members as they lay the engineering foundation and build the early versions of the Cascade product. Given the full stack nature of the role, the engineer is expected to support both front-end and back-end, and in many cases owning a new feature from start to finish across the entire stack. The eng stack is multi-tiered and consists of React, Redux, ES6, GraphQL, Python, Django, Celery, Postgres, Pandas, & Redis.

About You

  • You're product-focused by nature, clean code design patterns excite you equally as much as an intuitive and elegant end product.
  • You gravitate towards implementing clever solutions of existing libraries over architecting new core components from scratch.
  • You have a passion to empower non-engineers via better tooling and workflows.
  • You are intellectually curious on what is takes to build a successful start-up outside of engineering execution - including go-to-market, customer interviews, pricing, and marketing.
  • You lean towards learning a breadth of engineering skills, and can pick up new libraries and frameworks quickly.

  • At least five years of experience in an engineering IC role.
  • Deep knowledge of web architecture principles and protocols (e.g. Rest APIs, GraphQL, Websockets, etc).
  • Experience building applications and API’s using a traditional MVC framework (e.g. Django, Rails)
  • Experience building a single-page application via a modern front-end framework (React, Angular, TypeScript, etc).
  • Proficiency building relational data models and writing queryes with transactional databases.
  • Experience testing UIs via testing frameworks and automated testing tools.
